Welcome! Our first community challenge is to develop a mission statement and vision statement for the Norton Middle School. Please contribute ideas as to what each of our statements should reflect. Once completed, please identify yourself as parent, student, retiree, taxpayer, etc when posting to the blog.

Some helpful information:

Mission Statement: A mission statement explains why our organization (school) exists and what it hopes to achieve in the future. Particular attention is focused on setting objectives and monitoring performance.

Vision Statement: A vision statement outlines what the organization (school) "wants to be" based upon our collective belief system and values. The vision encompasses the "big picture" with particular focus on the future.

Thank you for your time.

A thought for the vision, I would like to see something about the promotion of lifelong learning.
The mission should emphasize supporting a positive transition between childhood and adolescence by fostering social, emotional and academic growth. Another statement should have something about setting high expectations for students and staff, achieving a challenging and supportive atmosphere etc.

Mission statements, and visions and school handbooks are only merely words on a canvas unless someone is moved to actually want to implement them into their lives.
